"Power of The Tongue" offers educational, inspirational, and  versatile, multi-purposed lyceum, performance or Coffee House presentations. Enjoyed by audiences of all ages, the "flawless" presentations can be utilized for Lyceum, Coffee House, King celebrations, Black History, Women's History and National Poetry Month programs.  Rooted in poems, monologues, prose pieces, soliloquies and other classic literary favorites; music and historic video footage, unless otherwise noted, undergird all presentations. Listed below is the descriptions of the seasonal  Women's History performance. Please feel free to inquire about tailoring themes to presentations. Ge'ylah is a one - of - a - kind lyceum speaker for all educational occasions. Rates are listed, but negotiable. Promotional packets are included for some events. 

March--Women's History Month -
"One Less Road To Travel"

A tribute to the oral tradition and word power of women.  "One Less Road to Travel" is a 75-minute multi - media performance anchored in poems, prose pieces, soliloquies, monologues and other classic literary favorites. Costume changes, music and historic video footage undergird performance.

If requested, question and answer session follows the performance.

Women have shaped  the world and women writers helped to create the mold. In this dynamic, audience interaction performance, hear Performance Poet, Ge'ylah dramatically recite the works  of famous and extraordinary, everyday women and narrate how theyr presence helped to shape literature and history.

Famous poetry, maxims, monologues and soliloquies are enveloped with music and video footage.

Select  from Ge'ylah's Multi-cultural or Afrocentric version of this celebratory show. Performance may include, but is not limited to the  works and words of Maya Angelou, Sylvia Plath, Emily Dickinson, Phyllis Wheatley, Ge'ylah, Nichole Shields,  Sonia Sanchez, Emily Post, Margaret Walker Alexander, Nikki Giovanni, Ntozake Shange, Rita Dove and more.

Additionally, Ge'ylah challenges women of today to draw upon the "Power of the Tongue".  She shares the story of how Essence Magazine, matriach, Susan L. Taylor challenged her to change her life thus setting a spark  within Ge'ylah to "spread her wings and fly."  Works performed also include : "Upon Being Brought From Africa to America"  -  Phyllis Wheatley,  " I am a Black" - Gwendolyn Brooks, " For My People" - Margaret Walker Alexander, " What Shall I Tell My Children Who Are Black" - Margaret Taylor Burroughs , "Still I Rise" - Maya Angelou, "Improvisations" - Sonia Sanchez, "Whem Malindy Sings" - Paul L. Dunbar, " Southern Hospitality" - Nichole L. Shields, "Strange Fruit" - Billie Holiday and original works by the performance poet herself.
